New P7 DarkSword iPhone spyware can steal passwords, photos and private notes. Learn how it works, who's at risk and how to protect your iPhone.

Dangerous iPhone Spyware Discovered - Check This Setting Now

A newly discovered iPhone spyware threat is raising security concerns because it can potentially steal personal photos, saved passwords, private notes and other sensitive information.

Security researchers have identified a more advanced version of DarkSword spyware, called P7 DarkSword, which can secretly collect information from vulnerable iPhones.

The good news? Apple says updated iPhones are protected against the known DarkSword attacks.

Here’s what every iPhone user should know.

1. What Is P7 DarkSword Spyware?

P7 DarkSword is a dangerous type of spyware designed to collect personal information without the user’s knowledge.

Researchers at mobile security company iVerify discovered the new variant while investigating an infected iPhone.

Unlike ordinary apps, this spyware can access sensitive parts of a compromised device and communicate with hackers remotely.

2. What Information Can It Steal?

According to security researchers, P7 DarkSword can potentially access:

  • Saved passwords: Sensitive credentials stored in the iPhone’s Keychain.
  • Personal photos: Images stored in the Photos library.
  • Private notes: Information saved in Apple Notes.
  • App data: Certain files and information from installed apps.
  • Crypto wallet information: Data associated with some cryptocurrency wallets.

These are capabilities identified by researchers, not proof that every infected device had all this information stolen.

3. How Does the Spyware Infect iPhones?

DarkSword attacks have been linked to malicious websites and online advertisements that exploit security weaknesses in outdated iOS versions.

In some cases, visiting compromised web content may be enough to expose a vulnerable device.

Earlier attacks targeted iPhones running certain versions of iOS 18.

However, researchers have not confirmed that P7 DarkSword can infect fully updated iPhones.

4. How to Protect Your iPhone

The most important protection is keeping your iPhone updated.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General → Software Update.
  3. Install the latest security update available for your iPhone.
  4. Open Automatic Updates and enable automatic iOS updates.

You should also avoid suspicious links, use strong passwords, enable two-factor authentication and download apps from trusted sources.

For people at unusually high risk of targeted spyware attacks, Apple also offers Lockdown Mode under Settings → Privacy & Security.

5. What If You Think Your iPhone Is Infected?

Don’t panic if your iPhone is running slowly or its battery drains quickly. These symptoms alone don’t prove spyware infection.

If you receive a genuine Apple threat notification or have strong evidence of an attack, take it seriously.

Use another trusted device to secure your important accounts and contact a qualified security professional. If you suspect a targeted attack, seek advice before erasing the iPhone because resetting it could destroy useful evidence.

Are iOS 27 Users Safe?

Apple says the vulnerabilities used by known DarkSword attacks have already been patched.

According to the company’s statement, iPhones running the latest available security updates for their supported iOS versions, including iOS 27, are protected against these known exploits.

That doesn’t mean any iPhone is completely immune to future threats, but installing security updates remains your best first step.

Final Takeaway

P7 DarkSword is a serious spyware threat capable of accessing sensitive information on compromised iPhones.

However, there’s no evidence that every iPhone is vulnerable or that the spyware can bypass the latest security patches.

If you do only one thing today, check Settings → General → Software Update and install any available security update.
