Can’t Read Your iPhone Screen Clearly? Try These 8 Hidden Settings

Struggling to read your iPhone screen? Discover eight useful iOS accessibility features, including larger text, bold fonts, Zoom, contrast and text-to-speech.

8 iPhone Accessibility Settings That Make Reading Easier

Your iPhone has several built-in features that can make text easier to read, improve screen visibility and reduce eye strain. Whether you struggle with tiny letters, low-contrast menus or bright displays, you don’t necessarily need a new phone to improve your experience.

Apple includes powerful accessibility settings that let you increase text size, make fonts bolder, reduce transparency and even have your iPhone read text aloud.

Here are eight useful iPhone display settings worth trying.

1. Make Text Bigger Across Your iPhone

If you often squint while reading messages, emails or websites, increasing text size is a good place to start.

Go to Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size and move the slider to the right.

For even larger text, open Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Larger Text and enable Larger Accessibility Sizes.

Compatible apps will automatically adjust their text to your preferred size.

2. Turn On Bold Text

Sometimes the problem isn’t the size of the letters but how thin they appear.

Go to Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Bold Text and enable the setting.

This makes supported interface text appear thicker and easier to distinguish, especially on bright backgrounds.

3. Increase Contrast for Better Visibility

Some iPhone menus use subtle colors that can be difficult to distinguish.

To improve visibility, open Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size and turn on Increase Contrast.

This enhances the distinction between certain foreground and background elements, making buttons, menus and text easier to recognize.

4. Reduce Transparency and Visual Distractions

Apple’s modern interface includes translucent menus, blurred backgrounds and layered visual effects.

If these effects make text difficult to read, go to Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Reduce Transparency.

Enabling this option makes some backgrounds more solid, helping text and controls stand out.

5. Zoom In on Anything on Your Screen

Need to enlarge a small button, image or section of text?

Open Settings → Accessibility → Zoom and turn on the feature.

You can then double-tap with three fingers to zoom in or out and drag with three fingers to move around the enlarged screen.

Zoom is especially useful for apps that don’t support adjustable text sizes.

6. Try Color Filters and Reduce White Point

If certain colors are difficult to distinguish, open Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Color Filters.

You can select grayscale or filters designed for different color-vision needs.

For displays that feel excessively bright, enable Reduce White Point on the same settings screen. This reduces the intensity of bright colors without requiring you to lower the entire screen’s brightness.

7. Let Your iPhone Read Text Aloud

You don’t always have to read everything yourself.

Go to Settings → Accessibility → Read & Speak to explore options for having your iPhone speak selected text or read onscreen content.

You can also try Accessibility Reader, which provides a customizable reading view with adjustable fonts, spacing, background colors and audio playback.

8. Make Everything Bigger With Display Zoom

If you want larger icons, buttons and other interface elements—not just bigger text—try Display Zoom.

On iOS 27, go to Settings → Appearance → Display Zoom → Larger Text, then select Use Zoomed.

Final Verdict

You don’t need to struggle with small text or hard-to-read menus on your iPhone. Apple’s built-in accessibility features can make a noticeable difference in everyday use.

Start with Larger Text, Bold Text and Increase Contrast. If you need more help, explore Zoom, Color Filters and Accessibility Reader.

These features are especially useful for anyone who reads long articles, checks messages frequently or simply wants a more comfortable iPhone experience.
