iOS 27 Has a Hidden Scam Protection Setting-Turn It On Now

Scam calls are getting smarter. Fraudsters often pretend to be bank employees, customer support agents or government officials to trick people into sending money or sharing personal information.

With iOS 27, Apple has introduced Impersonation Risk Detection, a feature designed to help protect iPhone users from certain scams.

How to Enable Scam Detection on iPhone in iOS 27

1. What Is Impersonation Risk Detection?

Imagine someone calls you pretending to be from your bank. They say your account is in danger and ask you to transfer money immediately.

If you open a banking app that supports Apple’s new feature, your iPhone may help the app identify suspicious activity and display a warning.

Note: This feature doesn’t listen to your calls or automatically detect every scammer. It works with supported apps during certain sensitive activities.

2. How to Turn It On

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Privacy & Security.
  3. Find Impersonation Risk Detection.
  4. Turn on Share with App Developers.

That’s it! Compatible apps can now use Apple’s scam-risk information to help protect you.

3. What Happens When a Scam Is Suspected?

If a supported app detects possible scam-related activity, it may:

  • Show a warning before you send money.
  • Ask you to verify your identity.
  • Request extra confirmation before completing an action.

The warning depends on the app you’re using. Not every banking or payment app supports this feature yet.

4. Does Apple Listen to Your Calls?

No. The feature doesn’t record or listen to your phone conversations.

Instead, it uses certain device and activity signals to help supported apps assess whether an action might be risky.

5. Simple Tips to Avoid Phone Scams

Even with this feature enabled, stay careful.

  • Never share your OTP, password or banking PIN.
  • Don’t transfer money just because someone calls claiming to be from your bank.
  • Avoid opening suspicious links sent through SMS or WhatsApp.
  • If you’re unsure, hang up and contact the company using its official number.

Verdict

Apple’s Impersonation Risk Detection in iOS 27 can add another layer of protection against scams.

You can enable it through Settings → Privacy & Security → Impersonation Risk Detection.

Remember, it only works with participating apps and cannot guarantee that every scam will be detected.
